Status: First draft in progress, 56,000 words
Overview: Shadows Above, Shadows Beneath will be my debut novel. I came up with the original idea for what is now SASB around 2012, and the idea has since evolved into its current state. The story follows two main characters, Emlis Branchent and Auron Andalus, in a fantasy setting. Auron is a prince on an island kingdom that has fallen into a state of perpetual night. Emlis is the nephew of a wealthy merchant at a port on the mainland. Auron has the weight of his kingdom on his shoulders as his people succumb to starvation and his father obsesses over the magical crystal that plunged the islands into shadow. Emlis struggles with a curse from his dead father that causes plants to grow quickly and erratically around him, threatening his social status and his family’s reputation in the city. Both characters will discover strange powers as they uncover the mysteries of their pasts and fight for success in their world.
